The new proprietors of the Wordsworth Hotel in Grasmere have held a fundraiser for the victims of last year’s horrific floods.

On Sunday 3^rd January a lunch was held at The Wordsworth Hotel, which raised more than £2500 for The Cumbria Flood Fund.

Thousands of people were affected by the heavy rain, including the new Wordsworth Hotel owners, Iain and Jackie Garside who despite losing their own home in the floods wanted to help others in the same position.

Mr Garside comments, “Losing your home and possessions is one of the worst things that can happen, and we have wonderful friends who have supporting us through this awful time, one has been so generous and has lent us a house until we can find somewhere to live as our home uninhabitable. There are so many people less fortunate and so many who don’t have insurance and I want to do what I can to help my local community.”

This lovely 4 star Wordsworth Hotel in Grasmere has just been purchased by Iain and Jackie Garside who have been hoteliers in The Lakes for more than thirty years at the Rothay Garden, Miller Howe and Fayrer Garden.

Iain Garside is the former Cumbrian Tourist Chairman, was President and Chairman of the Hoteliers association and Lake District Entrepreneur of the year 2000.  He comments, “A lot of people are shocked about our new venture as I retired five years ago, but we’re so excited to be taking on such a wonderful project. We’ve already started replacing acres of carpet and gone through tins of paint. We now plan to refurbish the 2 AA rosette restaurant in January, then we’ll extend the gym and spa with new equipment being installed. We have lots of wonderful plans for the bedrooms as well. The staff all seem very excited about the improvements.”
