The Wordsworth Colours at the Races
Encouraging start for the 2008 season:
DOVE COTTAGE –
Now a six year old, he had his first run at Warwick on April 15th over 1m 3 f. Running off the back of a six month break , he handled testing conditions well, led most of the way, and was headed in the straight coming second by half a length but staying on well. That run stood him in good stead for Goodwood on the 9th May again over 1 m 3 f and, given an excellent ride by Fergus Sweeney and carrying top weight he romped home to win by 4 1/2 lengths.
RYDAL MOUNT –
Now 5, and in foal to Royal Applause. Had her first run this year at Windsor over 6f ridden by apprentice Timothy Meadows and ran a creditable 7th, finishing fast and not having had a clear run. She ran again at Windsor on May 6th again over 6f with Timothy in the saddle. She was caught in the last stride and lsot in a photo finish by only a nose. She will revert to 7f in future. Her foal is expected in February 2009.
Slipped leaving the stalls at Goodwood on May 21sy and was unplaced but had an excellent win at Newbury over 7f on May 31st. She runs next at kempton on the all-weather, again over 7f , on June 11th at 8.25pm.
RASH JUDGEMENT -
3 year old bay colt by Mark of Esteem, showed considerable speed as a 2 year old and came a very good nursey second at Doncaster on his final start last season. His first outing this year was at Sandown on April 25th over 5f where he ran into third. Racing Post analysis was:
' held up behind the winner but travelled much better than him. This was a promsing reappearance from a colt of whom much more will be heard'
Runs next on Thursday June 12th at 3.35 at haydock over 6f.
PICS: by Ian Headington (Rydal Mount winning at Goodwood)
Steven Cargill (Rydal Mount going down at Ascot)
